“No man chose to come to this world; no man has the best plans for his life.”
God has a great plan for your life, but if you don’t know it, you can’t walk in it. He prearranged a good life for you. That’s what we read in our theme verse.
There are good things God has planned for you to do. But you may never do them until you know that God has such a plan.
This is why the study and meditation on the Word is very important; it helps you become more acquainted with His plans and the life He prearranged for you.
Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, who helps you fulfil God’s plan for your life, you receive the mysteries and realities of the Kingdom. Hallelujah!
The Word declares, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9 AMPC).
He chose you for excellence and perfection, to display His virtues and wondrous works. He chose you to be the light of the world.
This is extraordinary! I understood this very early in my life, and I made up my mind to live the life that Jesus gave me, nothing short of it! That’s our calling; that’s God’s plan. Why would you want to live any lower or lesser life? Don’t accept it.
This year, you can be as successful as God has ordained for you to be if you’d walk by the Word. You were born to manifest the glory of God and establish His will and righteousness in the earth.
Consider John the Baptist, for example, whose entire ministry was for the sole purpose of making the Messiah known to Israel. God could have simply told John where to find Jesus, but John had to follow God’s instructions and wait for the sign he was given: “…Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit” (John 1:33 NKJV).
God could have simply told Samuel whom to anoint, but He allowed the process to unfold step by step. Finally, Samuel asked Jesse, “Are all thy children here?” Jesse admitted that there was still one more son, David, who was tending the sheep. When David was brought before Samuel, the Lord said, “…Arise, anoint him: for this is he” (1 Samuel 16:12). God’s divine plan for David came to pass according to His preordained design.
God has a plan for your life, and it’s a good one. He has predestined your life for His glory, and He knows exactly where you are in His divine plan.
You don’t need to be in a hurry or get in a frenzy trying to fulfill His destiny for your life. He has all the events and their sequence planned out in line with His divine purpose.
Yours is to follow the path that He’s prearranged ahead of time. Ephesians 2:10 AMPC says, “For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].”
It’s important that you reflect on your life and be sure you’re walking in sync with the Spirit and following God’s plan for your life. If you give Him your attention, He’ll guide you aright always. Jesus said of the Holy Spirit, “…He’ll guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). Trust Him with your life, and He’ll lead and guide you in God’s perfect will for you.
When you’re walking in God’s plan, everything you require—within the ambit of His will for you—will be supplied at the right time. At every milestone in your journey, whatever you need will be in place because you’re on the path that God planned for you.
Struggling would become unnecessary, because you’re on course and piloted by the Spirit.
Some people pursue ambitions that have no connection to God’s purpose for their lives. They’re not yielded to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. God doesn’t want you doing something simply because others are doing it; seek and follow His guidance. Yield yourself to the Word. His Word is the true light.
The Psalmist said in Psalm 16:11, “Thou wilt shew me the path of life…”; how? Through the Word! His Word is a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path (Psalm 119:105). Through His Word, He leads you in the paths of success, victory, and boundless joy—those paths He already pre-arranged for you.
Your life shouldn’t be a labyrinth of circumstantial events; you’re not a child of chance. God prepared for you before you came, which means predestination is at work in you.
Never allow the fleeting pleasures of self-centred ambitions sway you. Don’t be perturbed by any unfavourable condition in which you may find yourself. Choose rather to follow and remain in God’s plan for your life, by serving Him wholeheartedly and living in His Word, and He’ll guide you to fulfil your destiny in Him.
As Christians, we all want to please God; we want to do His will and succeed for Him. We want to know and fulfill His calling for our lives; we want to bring Him honour.
However, for all that to happen, we must follow and accept His Word as absolute truth, for His Word is His will expressed. Through the Word, we know God’s plan, purpose, and the pattern He has set, and we’re able to follow and serve Him rightly.
In Christianity, it’s not just about doing what’s good, but doing it God’s way, for God’s purpose. Consider what we read in our opening text: Moses, instead of talking to the rock, struck the rock. Water came out, and the people drank to their fill, but God wasn’t pleased. He was angry with Moses.
Again, in the Book of Genesis, the Bible tells us how two brothers, Cain and Abel, brought their offerings to the Lord. Cain brought an offering of his choice, while Abel brought an offering of God’s choice: what God asked to be offered.
Cain’s sacrifice was rejected, because he didn’t follow the due order; he didn’t do what God wanted. Seeing that he was angry because his offering was rejected, God said to him, “If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted?” (Genesis 4:7).
Thus, from the very beginning, God showed us that we’re supposed to serve Him according to His plan, not ours. It doesn’t matter how nice your plan may be; the question is, is it what God wants? Moses got the rock to produce water for the people to drink, but failed to glorify God.
You glorify God by doing His Word. Jesus said, “I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do” (John 17:4). That’s the way Jesus glorified the Father. He served the Father according to the Father’s will, purpose, and plan; you can’t do it any other way!
