Born Of The Word

Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures (James 1:18).

The Lord Jesus is the Word of God made flesh, but did you know the same is true of us? In 1 Peter 1:23, the Bible says, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” We’re born of the Word, which means we’re children of the Word.

The Christian isn’t someone who merely switched religions or changed his ways of doing things. A Christian is someone who’s literally born of God, born of the Word. That means the life in you is the life of the Word. You’re no longer of the corruptible seed of man. The Lord Jesus said, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6). You’re not of the flesh but of the Spirit.

1 John 4:4 says, “Ye are of God, little children….” This means you hail from God; your origin is in Him. Hallelujah! This knowledge will completely transform your life and change the way you live. When you know your true identity in Christ, you’ll live victoriously every day.

The Bible says, “…Whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world…” (1 John 5:4). Keep that in mind as you contemplate what we read in 1 Peter 1:23: “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”

The Word that gave birth to you lives and abides forever. That says something about your nature, about your person; you’re absolutely invincible; you’re indestructible. You’ve overcome the world! The corruptible human life was supplanted with the Godlife, the God-nature, the instant you were born again. You’re not an ordinary person. Christ has taken up His abode in you, and you’ve become one with Him. As He is—so are you. Blessed be God!

Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant… (Acts 3:25).

I’ve often said that as Christians, we’re not in covenant with God; we’re the results or children of the covenant. There’s a huge difference between being in covenant and being the result of the covenant.

Think about it this way: when a man and woman get married, they come into a covenant; when they have children, their children are the result or fruit of that covenant. You can’t say the children are in covenant with their parents; only the parents have a covenant with each other. You have to understand this; otherwise, you’ll never really enjoy the blessings and glory of Christianity.

Peter, preaching to the Jews, spoke spiritually. He didn’t mean they were the children of the Prophets in the sense that they were born by the wives of the Prophets; no. When he called them the children of the Prophets and of the covenant, he meant children of the promise, or the spoken Word. And that’s exactly who we are.

The Apostle Paul, in his epistle to the Galatians, writes: “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:27-29).

We’re as much Abraham’s seed as the Jews that Paul addressed in his epistle. The new creation is the actual spiritual seed of Abraham. We’re heirs of the promise. Romans 8:17 says, “…if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ….” That’s who you are; that’s your identity! Glory to God!

“That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world:” (Philippians 2:15 KJV).

Meditate On This

“Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober,” verse 6 of 1 Thessalonians 5 reads, admonishing us to be watchful, particularly in these last days, because we are not of the darkness.

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” (Romans 8:16-17 KJV)

“For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we do not belong either to the night or to darkness. Accordingly then, let us not sleep, as the rest do, but let us keep wide awake (alert, watchful, cautious, and on our guard) and let us be sober (calm, collected, and circumspect). 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk, get drunk at night;” (1 Thessalonians 5:5-7 AMPC)

“For you are all children of the light and of the day, and do not belong to darkness and night. 6 So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Watch for his return and stay sober. 7 Night is the time for sleep and the time when people get drunk.” (1 Thessalonians 5:5-7 TLB)

“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.” (Ephesians 5:8 KJV)

“For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [lead the lives of those native-born to the Light].” (Ephesians 5:8 AMPC)
