Over the last decade of my 14 year old son’s life, once it’s summer time, my ex-wife will come up with the question ‘what’s your plan for summer holidays for him? Two years ago, I got him an eTA for Canada but she declined for him to visit Canada.

We would end up with a lot of arguments back and forth. Although I have requested that my son he allowed to travel as an unaccompanied minor to my previous base. I once offered to meet him in Dubai as an unaccompanied minor to no avail.

The last time my son was under my roof was summer of 2014 before his 5th birthday when I lived and worked in the North East of England. All of the other contacts with my son over the last 10 years we either stayed in a hotel in England or at my Friend’s house.

During the month of honour, May 2025, the same question came up again from my ex-wife and this time she allowed me book a flight ticket for him as an unaccompanied minor to come to Canada for summer holidays.

I held my breath for weeks, knowing fully well that she can just change her mind just like that without any reason. At the same time I continued to make my declarations.

I want to thank the Lord that my son arrived in Canada for summer holidays as an unaccompanied minor. He travelled alone for the very first time and the Lord made everything to work out well for him and I.
