One day, while I was praying in tongues, I had the intuition that I was saying things in the Spirit that had to do with my destiny and walk with the Lord but the words were coming out in tongues and I didn’t have the interpretation.
None of my friends, two of whom had the gift of interpretation of tongues, were around.
I was an undergraduate at this time and this was happening in my room as I laid on the bed and prayed.
I continued speaking in tongues and I was still feeling the unction so strong. Then, I said, “Lord, I need the gift of the interpretation of tongues so I can know what the Spirit is bringing to my understanding.” As I continued praying and speaking in tongues, suddenly, I received the interpretation and began to speak them out in English. Oh, how elated I was!
Then I took my journal and began to write. I spoke the words and interpreted. And guess what? Those things that were brought to my understanding about the campus fellowship and my future all came to pass. Praise God!
Interpretation of tongues is so important. Tongues and interpretation of tongues equal prophecy. And prophecy brings edification.
As you speak in tongues in prophetic utterance, you can trust the Holy Spirit to bring the message to your understanding. If you thought you were blessed speaking in tongues, wait until you receive the interpretation. The experience will bring you such unspeakable joy! If you don’t have the interpretation, the Lord says to ask for it, and it’s His desire to grant it, through the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah!
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries (1 Corinthians 14:2).
Many people wonder if it’s possible to know the will of God. “God moves in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform,” they’d say. Obviously, they have the wrong perception of God, because God surely isn’t mysterious and doesn’t work in mysterious ways. He has revealed Himself and His Will to us primarily through His written Word. However, we can also know His will when we pray in other tongues.
The Holy Spirit is the one who gives us utterance when we speak in other tongues, and He never leads you outside the provisions of God’s Word. When you pray with the spirit, in other tongues, the Holy Spirit imparts to you the knowledge of God’s will concerning issues of importance. Your mind doesn’t grasp the meaning of the utterances you make at such times, but you’re praying the will of God.
Romans 8:26 says, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
This is part of the ministry of the Spirit in your life; He helps you pray aright, in line with the will of God. Praying in this manner—declaring the counsel of God—through the Spirit will cause physical circumstances to align with God’s perfect will for your life.
How important it is to pray in other tongues! It helps you know and establish God’s will for your life! It enables you to shape the circumstances of your environment to be in conformity with His plans and purposes. Often, there’re certain changes you might want to see in your life, family, ministry, job, business, finances or academics, which may seem not to be happening. If you’d pray fervently in other tongues, you’d receive ideas and answers from the Holy Spirit through your spirit.
The Bible says Jesus Christ is the embodiment of all knowledge and wisdom (Colossians 2:3); and you’re complete in Him (Colossians 2:10). This is what makes it possible for you to know anything through the Holy Spirit. I admonish God’s people to speak in tongues all the time, because it’s the coded language of the Spirit! It’s the quickest way to activate and condition your spirit to receive spiritual information and guidance.
Perhaps you require guidance for something, or there’s a piece of information you need; speak in tongues. Go on until you know you’ve got the guidance or counsel you need, or the information you require. The answer may be given to you in your spirit, in other tongues. In that case, you’ll require the gift of interpretation of tongues. This is important because if you can’t interpret the answer in your understanding, you may not be able to apply it to your benefit. In that case, you’d have to ask the Holy Spirit to help you bring the message to your understanding in prophetic utterance.
If you thought you were blessed speaking in tongues, wait until you receive the interpretation! The Bible says, “Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret” (1 Corinthians 14:13); it’s that simple! Ask the Lord in faith for the interpretation of the tongues you’re speaking, receive the interpretation by faith and speak it forth in your understanding.
