The Journey of Restored Spiritual Sight
The story of Scripture can be understood as the story of vision—how humanity lost spiritual perception through sin or disobedient and how God restores it through Christ.
OPTIZOMAI embodies this divine journey: moving from distorted vision to redeemed vision, and ultimately to the revelation of Christ in His eternal glory.
Optizomai is God’s invitation for us to see differently, understand deeply, and live purposefully.
1. Adam Before the Fall: Seeing Through God’s Perspective
Before Adam disobeyed God and sin entered the world, humanity lived in perfect alignment with God. Adam viewed creation as God intended and operated from divine wisdom rather than natural observation alone.
When Adam named the animals (Genesis 2:19–20), he demonstrated spiritual insight granted by God. He also immediately recognized Eve without prior teaching or lecture that introduce Eve to him, he declared:
“This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.”
His recognition reflected more than physical awareness—it revealed spiritual discernment.
Before the Fall:
• Humanity saw God without fear.
• Humanity understood its identity.
• Humanity knew its purpose.
• Humanity exercised delegated authority.
• Heaven and earth functioned in harmony.
Adam’s perception was centered on God, allowing him to see reality clearly and accurately.
2. Adam After the Fall: Distorted Vision
Sin did more than separate humanity from God—it corrupted human perception.
Genesis 3 records a profound irony: “Then the eyes of both of them were opened…”
Although their eyes were opened, they lost true spiritual sight. Instead of viewing life through God’s truth, humanity began seeing through:
• Fear
• Shame
• Guilt
• Self-consciousness
• Hiding
Before the Fall:
• Nakedness carried no shame.
After the Fall:
• Nakedness became a symbol of fear and insecurity.
Nothing in the physical environment had changed. What changed was their perception.
From that moment forward, humanity began interpreting reality through broken lenses, unable to fully perceive God, themselves, or His purposes. Humanity understanding of things changed and this affected how humanity react to situations.
3. Jesus Before the Cross: God Revealed in Humility
When Christ came into the world, many saw Him only through natural eyes.
Isaiah prophesied:
“He has no beauty that we should desire Him.”
Yes, some perceived:
• A carpenter
• A teacher
• A prophet
Others perceived:
• The Messiah
• The Son of God
• The Lamb of God
Peter received divine revelation when he confessed: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus responded: “Flesh and blood has not revealed this to you…”
This moment reveals a timeless truth that spiritual perception is not achieved through intellect alone—it is granted through divine revelation.
4. Jesus After the Resurrection: The Awakening of Spiritual Sight
Following the resurrection of Christ, many who had knew Jesus failed to recognize Him immediately.
Examples include:
• Mary Magdalene mistook Him for the gardener.
• The disciples on the road to Emmaus walked with Him without recognizing Him.
• The disciples fishing by the Sea of Galilee initially did not know it was Jesus on the shore.
The real recognition came only when God opened their understanding.
Luke 24 declares: “Then He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.”
The resurrection was more than proof of Christ’s victory over death. It demonstrated that spiritual understanding must be awakened by God. This is part of what we gain from Resurrection.
True sight begins when God opens our eyes.
5. John and the Revelation of the Glorified Christ
The highest expression of spiritual perception is found in the Book of Revelation. John knew Jesus intimately. He walked beside Him, learned from Him, and witnessed His crucifixion. Yet when he encountered the resurrected and glorified Christ, he wrote:
“I fell at His feet as though dead.”
John now saw Christ not merely as the suffering servant, but as:
• King of Kings
• Lord of Lords
• Righteous Judge
• Alpha and Omega
• The One whose eyes blaze like fire
• The One whose face shines like the sun in its strength
The revelation exceeded everything John previously understood and knew about Jesus.
This teaches us that spiritual perception is progressive. No matter how much we know of Christ, there is always more of His glory to behold.
The Pattern Throughout Scripture
Throughout the Bible, God consistently transforms people’s perception before using them for His purposes.
• Abraham saw the stars and believed God’s promise.
• Moses saw a bush burning without being consumed.
• Elisha prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened to heaven’s armies.
• Isaiah saw the Lord high and lifted up.
• Ezekiel saw visions of God.
• Daniel received heavenly revelations.
• Paul encountered the risen Christ on the Damascus Road.
• Stephen saw Jesus standing at the right hand of the Father.
Every significant movement of God begins with a fresh vision of God.
