Esau wanted Isaac’s blessings, the Bible said he sought it with tears, but it was not meant to be
In the whole of the Bible, he was the first child to whom a father would give a condition for him to fulfil in order to get a blessing
It was that clause that gave Rebekka and Jacob the room to deceive Isaac in order to rob Esau of the blessings his father obviously wanted to give unto him
Even if Rebecca and Jacob didn’t act the way they did, Jacob would have ended up with the blessings somehow
Predestination will always beat desire in the race to fulfill destiny
Remember how Jesus sweated in the place of fervent prayer, with the hope that the cup of predestination would be taken away from him
We saw in him the desire to live, to fulfil destiny through an alternative route, but without the shedding of his blood, there would be no remission of sin
For that reason He was made, For that reason he was born “Eli Eli Lamach shabak tani”
Every man must answer the call of destiny
A man may desire to be a professional footballer, or a model, or a global star musician or actor
He may end up lacking the skills and the charisma required to be all these things
He might insist that being the master of his own destiny, that is the path he will tread in life
Good for him
He will be mediocre in that path
He would have placed desire above predestination
He would never be remembered for his roles in any movie or any track that was worth listening to
He would talk of a football career that many would consider a joke
The path of desire, when taken with all our hearts, leaves us drained of the required essence to live life to the full
You hear many using the term “wanna be” footballer, “wanna be” actor, “wanna be” musician, and so on
When your desire to become something ends up hanging you in the wanna be section like some old clothes, you are answering to desire and not to destiny
Destiny has its unforgettable moments
That moment is for the individual who stuck with it through thick and thin on its unusual route
Like Nelson Mandela declaring that he had no epiphany, no vision or determination to be the leader of the South Africans when they were heavily under the apartheid rule
He said he just wanted to be a lawyer, to help as many of his people as possible while making a bit of an impact within the black community
He never saw the weavers of fate at work until it was too late
After he was thrown in prison and left to rot, destiny began to crank up the pressure
Songs were sung from Soweto to Lagos and Cairo
Concerts took over the stories of oppression and subjugation
They were supposed to strike the shepherd for the sheep to scatter
Well, the sheep didn’t get a new shepherd
Destiny kept whispering in the ears of all who would listen of the injustice and evil that men do
It took twenty-seven years, but destiny remained resolute
When destiny finds himself a champion, he allows the champion to ride it until its goal is achieved
Peter had a strong desire to show Jesus how faithful and loyal he was
In his heart, he was willing to die and be crucified with the Lord Jesus, but it was just a desire
Desire has a way of letting its advocate down
“I want to” and “I was born to” are not the same thing
I want to can “unwant” to later, but “I was born to” must fulfill his purpose
When they came to arrest Jesus, desire froze in the face of danger
When desire continued to follow the trails of the soldiers who arrested Jesus, he was challenged, and desire denied the Lord
It is not enough to fulfil your heart’s desire; very few get satisfied when they do that
There is no satisfaction that can beat fulfilling your destiny as written for you.
The same goes for a couple taking the vow of for better or for worse
When taking this vow, the aim and aspiration were for the better part
As soon as things go for the worse, most couples begin to reconsider their options
When personal desire and the general desire of the couple do not match, the one with the bigger dream begins to ask himself or herself whether the partner he or she fought to be with truly fits into the magnitude of his or her vision in life
The desire to get married then clashes with the call of destiny
Guess which one will lose out?
Desire will lose out big time
Destiny always wins.
Destiny does not always make one happy or sad
Destiny is like the water from Jacob’s well
It is not as if there were no other wells with good water that one can drink and be satisfied but when a specific well’s water beckons, until you drink of it, every other water you taste will be like a carbonated substitute in your mouth
Nothing satisfies like destiny.
PS: We are coming to OAU this weekend.
