Eternally Saved

If Jesus is the Word of God made flesh, then His blood must be divine. Since the blood that ran through His veins was divine, it then implies that it has spiritual efficacy. This spiritual efficacy transcends the physical. It was the blood of Jesus that washed our sins away. It is all that was necessary to ensure you and I can have eternal life.

Some Christians think they’ll begin to live eternal life when they get to heaven. If you think eternal life starts when you get to heaven, you’ll miss out while you’re here on earth. The Bible says “…as the Father hath life in Himself; so hath He given to the Son to have life in Himself.”

If you have confessed Jesus Christ and made Him the Lord of your life, then His very life has been imparted into you and will dominate you. When Jesus came into your life, light came in, and all the darkness left. Now that He resides in you, your life has ceased to be an ordinary human life.

Now you may ask -“What if I commit a sin?”, “Will I still be saved?” Our heavenly Father is proud of the fact that He has many children who love Him. You shouldn’t feel inferior in the presence of God; you’re accepted and loved by the Father, just the same way He loves Jesus. When Adam and his wife sinned against God in the Garden of Eden, they were ashamed and therefore hid themselves when God came to visit them in the garden (Genesis 3:10). We are God’s children indeed and we live in his presence now. The Word of God says,”…for He hath clothed me with garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with jewels”(Isaiah 61:10). Praise God, you’re never naked or exposed before men, since He has covered you in His righteousness.

If you sin, He says,”…come boldly unto the throne of grace…” (Hebrews 4:16) to obtain mercy. I want you to note the word ‘boldly’ in the scripture. In other words, our Father is saying, “My child, don’t be ashamed or afraid as Adam was. Come to Me with assertive confidence and ask for forgiveness, for My grace and mercy are abundant upon you.”

You are no longer of the world or have the nature of the world. You are now hid in Christ, and no one and nothing can separate you from Him. So live and abide in the truth. Let this new life occupy your thoughts and fill your mouth. Demonstrate the Lord’s will and His Word as you walk in the Spirit. Count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ. God has given you the gift of righteousness, so forget the past. Don’t let it hold you a slave to its failures and successes; live today to its fullest and press on into the future, holding God’s Word as your banner.

Sin consciousness is the devil’s strategy to make people feel unworthy before God. He makes them focus more on their wrongdoings than on the grace of God. I’ve seen people who, after confessing the Lordship of Jesus over their lives, still act as though they’re not saved. Every day, they carry a burden of guilt because of some wrong. As a result, they keep trying to get saved again and again until they get frustrated.

The Bible says you’re the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21). Righteousness is different from right living. Righteousness is the nature of God. The day you were born again, you were born as righteous as God Himself. Understand this: You don’t become more righteous as you grow spiritually, just as a baby doesn’t become more human as he grows. Even though he’s a baby, he’s still as human as any adult. The same way, your actions may still be imperfect, but as far as God is concerned, you are as righteous as He is, because His nature of righteousness has been imparted to your spirit.

God wants you to grow from babyhood to maturity. However, to be able to do that, you need to learn to walk by faith (2 Corinthians 5:7). Walking by faith means living according to what the Word of God says about you. For example, the Word of God has said you’re the righteousness of God, so you don’t need to bother about what your mind tells you or what people say about you. You’re only to call yourself what the Word calls you. That’s how to walk by faith. Don’t ever let the devil lie to you about your salvation, and never expect him to tell you the truth. The day you gave your heart to Christ, you were saved once and for all!

Once a person is saved, are they always saved? Yes, when people come to know Christ as their Saviour, they are brought into a relationship with God that guarantees their salvation as eternally secure. To be clear, salvation is more than saying a prayer or “making a decision” for Christ; salvation is a sovereign act of God whereby an unregenerate sinner is washed, renewed, and born again by the Holy Spirit (John 3:3; Titus 3:5). When salvation occurs, God gives the forgiven sinner a new heart and puts a new spirit within him (Ezekiel 36:26). The Spirit will cause the saved person to walk in obedience to God’s Word (Ezekiel 36:26–27; James 2:26).

Numerous passages of Scripture declare the fact that, as an act of God, salvation is secure:

(a) Romans 8:30 declares, “And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.” This verse tells us that from the moment God chooses us, it is as if we are glorified in His presence in heaven. There is nothing that can prevent a believer from one day being glorified because God has already purposed it in heaven. Once a person is justified, his salvation is guaranteed—he is as secure as if he is already glorified in heaven.

(b) Paul asks two crucial questions in Romans 8:33-34

“Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? No one will, because Christ is our advocate. Who will condemn us? No one will, because Christ, the One who died for us, is the one who condemns. We have both the advocate and the judge as our Saviour.

(c) Believers are born again (regenerated) when they believe (John 3:3; Titus 3:5). For a Christian to lose his salvation, he would have to be unregenerate. The Bible gives no evidence that the new birth can be taken away.

(d) The Holy Spirit indwells all believers (John 14:17; Romans 8:9) and baptizes all believers into the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13). For a believer to become unsaved, he would have to be “un-indwelt” and detached from the Body of Christ.

(e) John 3:15 states that whoever believes in Jesus Christ will “have eternal life.” If you believe in Christ today and have eternal life, but lose it tomorrow, then it was never “eternal” at all. Hence, if you lose your salvation, the promises of eternal life in the Bible would be in error.

(f) In a conclusive argument, Scripture says, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38–39). Remember the same God who saved you is the same God who will keep you. Once we are saved, we are always saved. Our salvation is most definitely eternally secure!
