And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us… (John 1:14).
Just as Adam and Eve heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the Garden, in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8), the Old Testament prophets weren’t left out. Some heard a voice in their spirits, while others heard a voice from above; they, however, didn’t see a form or a shape to that voice.
But when the baby Jesus was born in Bethlehem, it was that same voice that Adam and the prophets heard, that was born in flesh! Jesus was always the Word of God in the bosom of the Father. But now, “…the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us….” The actual Greek translation of the word, “made” is “ginomai”; it means to bring to existence, or to become. Jesus wasn’t conceived like everybody else; He was conceived of the Holy Ghost and became flesh. A miracle of miracles!
The most amazing part of this intrusion into the sense realm wasn’t only that He put on flesh, and dwelt among men, but that He was the Father’s unflinching, unfailing and unconditional love manifested. His words, actions and miracles were all love-inspired. Jesus is God’s love in flesh. Love is the totality of His personality. Jesus couldn’t choose whether to love you or not to love you. He could only love you. He said in John 15:9 (AMPC), “I have loved you, [just] as the Father has loved Me….”
Ponder on Jesus as the revelation of God’s love for you! Think how much He loves you, to have given Himself as a ransom for your sins. He said in John 15:13 (NKJV), “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” He did exactly that for you and me.
“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM AND REVELATION in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints” (Ephesians 1:17-18 KJV).
This seems to suggest that the Apostle Paul was referring to two different things: the spirit of wisdom and the spirit of revelation, but no! He’s dealing with one and the same thing: the Spirit of wisdom bringing you revelation— the unveiling of mysteries—“apocalupsis” (Greek).
The Spirit of wisdom refers to the operations of the Spirit of God in wisdom, the Spirit of God manifesting Himself in wisdom. The use of the word “and” in that expression needs to be properly understood. In the Greek rendering, the word translated “and” is also translated “in,” “with,” or “for.” Therefore, a better rendering of that expression is “…the spirit of wisdom in revelation” or “the spirit of wisdom for revelation” in the exact knowledge of God.
In the Amplified Classic version, it says, “[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him” (Ephesians 1:17). This is the ministry of the Spirit of wisdom in your life: He brings you revelation—insight into mysteries and secrets.
Secondly, He brings you light (photizo—Greek); He floods your path with light. He illuminates your mind with extraordinary sagacity and amplitude of comprehension. Thirdly, He brings you counsel and direction such that life ceases to be mysterious to you.
“Christianity is the response of the Human spirit to the revelation of Jesus Christ, There must be a response from you especially with your words.”
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul, the last Adam was made a quickening spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45).
In 1 Corinthians 15, there’s a long discussion by Paul the Apostle where he draws differences between the natural and the spiritual, the terrestrial and the celestial, the first Adam and the second Adam. He said, “…The first man Adam was made a living soul….” That’s referring to Adam in the Garden of Eden. The Bible says God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and he became a living soul (Genesis 2:7).
But the Lord Jesus, the second and last Adam, is a life-giving Spirit, and you’re born after Him. Those who aren’t born again are born after the first Adam, the man of dust. They’re mere living souls, and that’s why they’re ruled by selfishness and driven by earthly desires.
But the Lord from heaven, whose icon we are and whose image we bear, is Life and the Life-giver. As He is, so are we (1 John 4:17). His very nature is to give and to dispense life. Therefore, being born after Him, you’re a life-giving spirit. You live by the law of the Spirit of life. You express His love, power and righteousness.
The Bible says, “The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven” (1 Corinthians 15:47). Then it declares further, “As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly” (1 Corinthians 15:48). This is a present reality; we’re like Him now. We’re heavenly men and women in the earth.
It helps you understand why the Lord Jesus said you’re not of this world (John 15:19). You hail from God (1 John 4:4); your origin is divine. Your words, like those of the Master, are spirit and life: “…the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). You dispense the presence and life of the Holy Spirit in words full of power. You’re not an earthling but a heavenly being. Blessed be God!
