Finding Purpose

The story of the children of Israel followed a particular course, which many individuals are also passing through on their way to fulfilling a purpose.

Jacob and Esau grew up under the same parents, got to a certain age, and left home to find their way.

Esau left home to found Edom

Jacob left home to serve under Laban for more than twenty years before fighting for his independence and confronting his past.

He eventually became Israel and was able to find his destination and fulfil his destiny.

The pattern is the same for Israel as a nation. They were in Egypt for four hundred years and eventually found a way to leave with the help of Moses.

After their departure, they spent forty years in the wilderness, wandering and worshipping strange gods until they eventually found their purpose, confronted their past and were able to possess their inheritance.

A similar pattern is seen in many people today as they aim to fulfil their destiny.

They were born into a family or a family of sorts, and they grow up here for a while. This is largely referred to as their childhood days.

These childhood days are usually spent learning how to be useful to oneself and society by going through a formal and informal education process

Then they get to a certain age, and they leave the nest, so to speak.

After leaving the nest, a stage of wandering begins.

The search for a mate has led many on a journey that took them from country to country, state to state, culture to culture, language to language, and from experience to experience.

Some dated widely, some dated one person for a very long time, it didn’t work out, and they ended up dating another person or marrying another person.

Some explored across genders until they found themselves in unusual kinds of relationships and love affairs.

Eventually, the days of wandering gave way to a discovery of who he or she is and who he or she believes he or she could do life with.

Thus, marital destiny and love life issues get settled by many to a certain degree at first.

The second stage of wandering usually begins long before the relationship and love wandering starts, but is usually concluded much after the relationship wandering has been settled.

It is the journey towards self-actualization and destiny fulfilment.

Jacob and Esau had their children before fulfilling their destiny.

Israel came into Egypt with 72 people and left as a nation with millions of people before fulfilling its destiny

The same applies to most people.

We find love, get married, and start a family before establishing a career, pursuing our political ambitions,, getting that appointment, or starting that business.

In most cases, the family is a very important anchor upon which the ambition and destiny of the individual are achieved.

Remember when Thomas Edison stated that he tried a thousand plus times to invent the lightbulb before getting it right?

Those many attempts at fulfilling destiny are the equivalent of the wanderings of the children of Israel throughout the desert for forty years before eventually possessing the promised land.

I don’t know the stage you are in now in your journey. You know there is a glorious future ahead of you, and you are journeying towards that future every day.

You feel a sense of urgency, and at the same time, you find yourself making many foolish mistakes, and you grow in knowledge.

Don’t fret.

You have toyed with the idea of starting this, inventing that, creating this app, or applying for this or that role.

You have dated this and that, befriended this and that, and gotten burned by many commitments and hurt by many dashed hopes.

It is all part of your journey.

That wandering stage.

Eventually, a season will come, and you will know in your heart that the wandering is over. This is it. I have gotten to my destination, and I am not going anywhere after now. I will build here. I will dig here and find water. I will make a name for myself here. I will plant my roots here and call this place my own.

Some people arrive here early, some arrive just at about the right time, while some never really arrive.

This place is called the destination.

The wanderer gets to this stage of his journey and says EBENEZER.

Getting to the promised land, however, is the beginning of another phase, which is the phase of destiny fulfilment.

You have landed that job; it is time to build your career.

You have started that business; it is time to grow it into success.

You have established that outfit; it is time to nurture it until it produces the goods.

As you do this, you balance the family with it. Some do this well. Many tilt too much to family and fail in destiny, while others tilt too much to destiny and fail in family.

A good percentage, however, balances the two and somehow brings out the best of both.

This is also nothing unique; the children of Israel got to the promised land, and only a few were able to conquer their allotted territories.

Some conquered the land while others just settled on the land and had to share their territory with strangers and wild animals.

Regardless of the stage you are on this journey, I want you to know that the guiding light of life is the true secret to fulfilment both in this world and the next.

Many completed all the stages like Alexander the Great and discovered that true satisfaction does not lie in conquering the world.

The man or woman who has mastered the rulership of his or her spirit is the one who has truly conquered life in every way.

When a man or woman accepts Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, he or she has possessed an asset that opens ancient gates and everlasting doors of possibilities once he or she had come in.

Many do not know this, and therefore, they fulfil the cycle of life and die unfulfilled.

Some even think the ultimate is to chase and enter Valhalla or heaven at the end of their journey.

Believers who have Jesus as their lord and Saviour receive the Holy Spirit, which is the guarantee of eternal life and access into the eternal realities of the heavenly Jerusalem.

These ones are possessors of heaven and earth, and while they yet live among mortals, they are birthing the verities of eternal life in their present realities.
